As August goes, this has been an exciting week for Laker fans. First, the team signed Yi Jianlian, then announced their coaching staff, and now they have come to terms on a deal with Zach Auguste, an undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame, according to Eric Pincus:
I hear the Lakers have a deal with Zach Auguste, who played for the summer league squad, haven't gotten word on terms

The 23 year old big man averaged an impressive 14.0 points and 10.7 rebounds in his senior year at Notre Dame. He also played well for the Lakers Summer League team, averaging 5.3 points and 4.0 rebounds in just 15.8 minutes per game. The deal’s terms are unknown, but it is likely non-guaranteed and might not be more than just a training camp invite.
Unfortunately for Auguste, the Lakers already have 15 players on the roster and many of them are big men. Even if one were to assume that Nick Young will be waived, it could be difficult to imagine Auguste making the team. The Lakers can have up to 20 players on their roster for training camp and preseason. Auguste will likely be fighting for the 15th and final spot on the team heading into the regular season. I do like this move though. It holds no risk and the Lakers might get a high energy player out of it. After all, extra competition never hurts.
