Dear Lakers: Dear Swaggy P

With free agency set to start two days from now, another name has surfaced for the Lakers. New Orleans Pelicans big man Ryan Anderson has been rumored to be on the Lakers free agent big board. Per Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders (H/T to Corey Hansford of Lakers Nation):

There is no shortage of suitors for Ryan Anderson. It’s believed that Anderson is one of the top names for the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers, Washington Wizards, Memphis Grizzlies and Sacramento Kings.

The 6-10 Power Forward out of Cal has made a living shooting from the 3 point line.  With a career average of 38% from the 3 point line and 7 rebounds a game as a backup, he seems to be a perfect fit for Luke’s free flowing system. With the ability to stretch the floor he could be a solid find overall for the Lakers.

Injury Issues

That said as was stated with the news that Chandler Parsons will be meeting with the Lakers, the 8 year vet has an assortment of injury plagued seasons.  In his time in the league he has only been able to reach the 81 game plateau once in the 2012-2013 season.  Beyond that his highest games played total was 66. He reached that amount in his rookie season and last season.

Locker Room

Beyond his solid shooting and rebound numbers  he is also a solid veteran for the locker room.  He is a player that understands his role, and has no quarrel with being a 6th man.  The question for the Lakers is if his injury history is worth the risk?  He also plays the same position as the surprise late first round revelation Larry Nance Jr. He will likely command somewhere around the $10-$15 million dollar a year mark.  It’s also said that that he is looking to go to a playoff team.
