LeBron James, fresh off of an epic Finals performance and comeback is already on the rumor mill. According to Stephen A Smith (yes I know), but also Adrian Wojnarowski, there is the smallest chance that LeBron James could be heading to the Lakers. Stephen A on ESPN First Take said, “I’m hearing that its a huge possibility that if he leaves Cleveland the Lakers could be in the mix,”. This coupled with Wojnarowski’s piece:
One more victory, one more magnificent night at Oracle Arena, and James will get to run off with his buddies again somewhere warm. Miami. Los Angeles. Wherever. There’s a restlessness about James that craves the next big move, the next power play. Franchises are on watch again, believing nothing’s forever in Northeast Ohio. Sooner or later, there’s a belief that James comes into play again, a line of thinking that his inner circle has done nothing to dissuade. As for James himself, well, he has gone so far as to publicly describe an end-of-career scenario that doesn’t include Cleveland.
Let me stress that the likelihood of this is near zero, but Stephen A Smith has shown that if he is plugged into any athlete at all, it’s LeBron James. He broke LeBron to Miami and was one of the first to say he was going to be Cleveland. That on top of scoop lord Adrian Wojnarowski writing something similar just a couple day ago, there is clearly something to this rumor.
It’s hard to see what reasoning LeBron would have to join the Lakers. Considering most of the team being guys in their first 3 seasons, but the Lakers do have enough cap space for 2, almost 3, max players. Perhaps LeBron is thinking he could bring a buddy or two to the Lakers. Again, we would like to stress that this scenario is FAR from likely to happen. With a reputable source like Wojnarowski and echoed by Stephen A, we figured it was at least worth reporting.
