DeMar DeRozan, the 6’7″ guard out of USC, has wanted to have a homecoming with his hometown team, the Los Angeles Lakers. DeMar, who after opting out of the final year of his contract, is an unrestricted free agent whom many have circled on their free agent boards as the best option after Kevin Durant. Unfortunately for Lakers fans, they will be disappointed by today’s news, as reported by Tim MacMahon at ESPN (@espn_mamahon):

DeRozan stated that he would stay focused on resigning with Toronto. It should come as no surprise, for the guard has stated in the past that he is extremely comfortable where he is at. His bond with fellow guard Kyle Lowry is one of the strongest in the NBA.
For many fans, including myself, this will actually come as a relief. DeRozan had a very poor showing in the playoffs. Also, the thing that he does that makes him great also makes him a bad fit for Luke’s system. DeRozan is a very poor 3 point shooter and is also very prone to ISO ball. This was a huge issue against elite defenders. I personally wrote an article during the playoffs on why we should pass on DeRozan, and how we already have a guard similar to him in Clarkson:
With that said, it is important that the Lakers continue to monitor the situation with him. Most importantly, in regards to Bismack Biyombo. Sources have stated that he will be looking for upwards of 17 to 20 million this coming off season. If Toronto wants to give DeRozan a max contract, it is very unlikely they will be able to afford to keep the 6’9″ center that blew up because of his hustle and rim protection. See my editor’s profile on the center out of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
