Luke Walton has done a great job coaching this year as he has completely changed the image of the Lakers in the span of a couple months. To do so, he certainly has put in the work off the court. On an episode of Locked On Lakers, John Ireland revealed Luke’s extraordinary work ethic:

I’ve been around a lot of coaches. I’ve been working with the Lakers since before Phil Jackson. I came in there in the Del Harris years. And I’ve never seen a coach watch film and be married to the job more than Luke Walton is. I mean, if you go anywhere and run into him, he’s working.

This is quite an accomplishment and a very positive sign for the Lakers going forward. Luke is still a very young coach and this is being his first year, he has already left quite an impression. He was handed a grim situation left by Byron Scott and it was up to him to fix it. He has done so with flying colors.

Walton has not only helped the culture of the Lakers, but also the product on the court. A much more free flowing and organized offense has helped the Lakers appear day and night compared to last year. D’Angelo Russell and Julius Randle have taken huge steps this year on both ends of the court. Nick Young and Lou Williams have also been playing very well. The whole team is just fun again.

Examining film is something that helps a coach be well prepared and get feedback based on past performances. It is also a great learning tool for young players.  To know that Luke is working harder than the past Laker greats is very encouraging and only brightens the already blinding future for the Lakers.
