Lonzo Ball will workout for the Lakers June 7th

Teams already lined up for D’Angelo Russell
2017 NBA mock draft – Clayton Fawcette
Josh Jackson to workout for the Lakers on Thursday

After an assortment of workouts from a number of potential late first round draft picks like Ivan Rabb(Cal) and Cam Oliver(Nevada), the date for the first potential number 2 draft pick Lonzo Ball was issued thanks to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports The Vertical (@ShamsCharania)

Lonzo Ball is widely regarded as a lock for the Lakers at #2. Up until now the Lakers had only met with potential top 5 picks De’Aaron Fox and Markelle Fultz but no workouts had been scheduled yet. On June 9th the Lakers will get their first chance to workout the young guard out of UCLA as well as interview him for the first time. Workouts are a huge part of the draft process. If you recall it was a workout and an immaculate interview that forced the Lakers to choose D’Angelo Russell over Jahlil Okafor. Despite what some D’Angelo detesters will tell you, that turned out to be a really great move.

Lonzo Ball has been deemed by many as the consensus number 2 pick overall. With Markelle Fultz likely going to the Boston Celtics the list is likely going to come down to Lonzo Ball, De’Aaron Fox, Josh Jackson, or by some miracle (or prayer answer by Nelson’s gods) Jonathan Isaac. It is unknown if or when the other top prospects will be working out for their chance at the # 2 selection. Ball has already stated that he will not be working out for the Celtics though there is a rumor that he will be working out for the 76er’s per ESPN.

Most importantly is this will be a good time for the Lakers to talk to Ball without the influence of his father (though he still could be at the workout you never really know). Unlike his Father, Lonzo Ball is a humble and quiet guy, so this will be a good opportunity for the Lakers to speak to him and get a read on who he really is as a player and as a person. Then again anyone compared to his father is quiet.
