Larry Nance Jr. to miss “approximately four weeks”

Josh Jackson promised the Lakers will draft him?

Larry Nance Jr has been working his way back to the court. After hurting himself on non-contact injury against the Hornets on December 20th, there was a lot of concern for Nance. Some were hoping he would just play this season. It turned out he had a knee contusion and would be out for about a month. Well, January 19th was the 1st time he went through a full practice since then.

He also had no issues. But his explosiveness is a work in progress.

Nance’s explosiveness is a big part of his play style, and it would be wise for the Lakers to wait for him to be back at full strength before playing him. It is not worth risking aggravating the injury, especially if he cannot be himself. ¬†And while he was “questionable” for a short period of time, he was quickly ruled out for Friday’s game against the Pacers. We will have another update on the 2015 27th pick on Saturday.

It is great that the Lakers are getting the back up power forward back. Nance’s hustle and energy is arguably the most important part of the Lakers 2nd unit. He also gives them the option of going small with Julius Randle at the 5 spot. Nance is averaging 7 points and 5.5 rebounds on 58% shooting for the year. He has shown improvement in finishing around the rim, and in his off ball defense, but that doesn’t mean he has been perfect. After hitting 3s in summer league and preseaon, Nance’s range doesn’t seem improved from last year. He often hesitates from mid range and I remember a couple specific plays where he caused a shot clock violation or a bad shot for someone else because he refused to shoot an open mid range shot. Regardless it will help tremendously to have him back.
