The greatest era in Lakers history is over. Marcelo Huertas has been traded to the Houston Rockets for Tyler Ennis. Houston is expected to waive Huertas.

This trade was strange and unexpected, but solid. Tyler Ennis is only 22 years old and a perfect reclamation project for the Lakers. The former mid-first round pick has struggled in the NBA, but is more capable than Marcelo Huertas. The Lakers needed another back up guard after trading Lou Williams, and Huertas is just not capable of solid minutes. He is still young, so there is time for him to figure things out in the NBA. As for Huertas, the Rockets waiving him most likely signals the end of his NBA career. The Catalyst had some fond memories with the Lakers, but every good thing must come to an end. Luckily for Steph Curry and his Golden State Warriors, the Curry stopper is not something they have to worry about anymore.

The last minute deal was the second trade the Lakers have made ahead of the deadline and so far, Magic has proven me wrong. Both trades have been solid and forward thinking. Lou fetched a first round pick, and the team got a backup point guard for next to nothing. Maybe the second Magic era won’t be so bad after all.
