Lakers sign Ivica Zubac to a three year deal

Give Zubac a chance
Five players the Lakers should look at late in the draft

The Lakers introduced their two 2016 draft picks in an introductory press conference today.  Brandon Ingram and Ivica Zubac (pronounced e-Vit-za Zu-buts) answered questions with the media and introduced their numbers.

Ingram was the number 2 pick and thus he took a great deal of attention. However, Ivica Zubac showed he has the personality to excel in this league.

Shortly after the press conference, it was announced by Mike Bresnahan that Ivica Zubac would be signing a three year deal with the Lakers. Years one and two will be guaranteed.

The 7’1″ big man out of Croatia has impressed a lot of fans since being drafted 32nd overall. Many scouts believed that he was a 1st round talent that dropped into the second round. Teams wouldn’t commit to him for this season.  Most teams wanted him to be a “draft and stash” type of player.  Zubac told teams that he would not come to the NBA if he could not play this year.  The Lakers had nothing but time to offer Ivica to grow and so they took a chance on him.

Contract Details

The contract details and money being paid is not available yet.  It is likely he will get a similar deal as Anthony Brown did last season (3 years $2.6 million).  With all things seen from the 19 year old this may be a great deal for the Lakers.

For more info on the 7’1″ big man please see Nelson Espinal’s scouting report.
