It looks like a foregone conclusion that Whiteside is going to sign with the Heat or Mavs, which will make the market for rim protecting centers smaller. Having all of that cap space, the Lakers have already connected with Bismack Biyombo, as Mike Mazzeo reports:
Have heard Biyombo connected to LA as a rim protection possibility https://t.co/fDGStTfFX9

Bismack Biyombo came along strongly during the playoffs with his elite defense and rebounding. His age at 23 gives him a lot of upside and he will need time to improves his offensive game. He improved his hands and finishes at a high rate in the P&R. The problems come with his post game and finishing ability when he can’t rise up and dunk. He can miss some easy lay-ins, but as he matures, that is sure to clear up.
With a huge hole to fill at the center spot and having insane amounts of money, Biyombo should definitely be high on the Lakers free agent big board. The Raptors aren’t likely to bring him back, so the Lakers could slide right in and pick him up. He isn’t likely to be a max player, so that makes him even more appealing. Hopefully the Lakers can secure a meeting with the 23 year old.
