On Saturday night the Lakers fell to the Grizzlies, despite a good effort. Going into the game the Lakers were all ready short handed, as they were missing their starting back court of D’Angelo Russell and Nick Young. Well on top of the loss, the Lakers suffered more bad news. Jose Calderon suffered a right hamstring sprain and will be out 2-4 weeks.
Calderon normally would not even be a rotation player but with D’Angelo and Young out, the Lakers will miss his minutes. He has been starting in place of D’Angelo, and without Calderon, Marcelo Huertas will be getting playing time….not good. Even if D’Angelo returns soon, I am sure, with Young out too. Calderon would have gotten some playing time as a 2 guard, where his 41.7 3-point percentage could really help the team. Although unlikely the Lakers could waive Huertas and pick up Gary Payton II, a move I would support. Besides that all the Lakers can do now is hope D’Angelo returns soon, and Huertas find more consistency.
