Hassan Whiteside has been assumed the primary target for the Lakers in free agency this summer. He fits a need, he’s incredibly talented, he’s young, and the Lakers have money.
Unfortunately for the Lakers, it does not appear the Hassan Whiteside is focused on them.
Sources: As 12:01 AM nears, free agent Hassan Whiteside's focus is centered on Miami and Dallas. Decision could come quickly on July 1.

While things can certainly change quickly in free agency, this is not a good look for the Lakers. The Lakers should still have a chance to meet with Whiteside, but they will have to make a major impression.
Whiteside has several suitors this summer, many of which are better options to win than the Lakers. According to Tim MacMahon of ESPN, the Mavericks have the first meeting
In a radio interview yesterday, Tim MacMahon of ESPN.com said that the Dallas Mavericks will be getting the first meeting with Whiteside when the clock hits 12:01 a.m on July 1st. He noted, “It’s not like the Mavericks have had a ton of success in free agency recently,” which just points to the fact that Mark Cuban is on the edge of his seat waiting to make a big splash this offseason.
The Lakers will have several other solid options at center, so losing Whiteside isn’t back-breaking. The Lakers will likely be in play for Bismack Biyombo and centers through a trade. Whiteside is the biggest prize, but not the only prize for LA.
UPDATE: Whiteside will NOT meet with the Lakers.
