Laker news in free agency is starting to heat up. With the announcement that Dion Waiters was meeting with the Lakers last night, the news today could be even bigger. Per Adrian Wojnarwoski, now with ESPN, George Hill and the Lakers will be meeting today.

George Hill had one of his best, albeit injury plagued, seasons. He averaged 17 points per game and a solid 4 assists playing for the Utah Jazz. Unfortunately, he only played 49 games due to a multitude of injuries. However, there is no doubt that he was a huge part of their playoff push. More importantly, he shot an excellent 40% from 3-point range.

Beyond that, Hill has been known to be the ultimate professional and one of the better teammates on any team he has played for. After spending his 1st 3 seasons in San Antonio, he was traded to the Pacers for a draft pick that would eventually become Kawhi Leonard. After being on the Pacers for 5 seasons (all with Paul George as his teammate), he was traded to the Jazz in a 3-team trade. The trade sent Jeff Teague to the Pacers and the draft rights to Taurean Prince to the Hawks.

After such a solid season many believed that George Hill would likely command a few years of security and a large salary. It is likely that the amount of injuries Hill has suffered weighs heavily on the willingness for other teams to take a large chance on him. Hill could use the Lakers for a large one year deal allowing him to once again show that he could be a healthy addition to any team for the 2018 season. After all from the sound of things, not a lot of teams are willing to offer a lot of years after the sticker shock that was 2016.

UPDATE:

Per Mark Medina of the OC Register.

The Lakers met with veteran guard George Hill in Los Angeles on Monday, according to league sources familiar with the situation. Though the parties did not agree to a deal, the meeting could lead to one in the days ahead.

No deal yet though one could be made in the coming days.
