First look at the Lakers All-Time NBA2K Team

I’m usually not the type of person to write about a video game, but that’s where we are in the offseason. NBA2K is getting better and better every year, and they just took another big leap in creating “All-Time” teams. They’re taking the best players to ever play for each team, and making them play with each other. Although this is not completely accurate, it will still be fun to see how guys like Wilt, Kareem, and Shaq compare to each other, considering they all played in very different eras.

The Squad

The All-Time Lakers team is already absolutely stacked. Arguably the best franchise in the NBA, and this photo shows it. The Lakers will have a frontcourt consisting of Shaq, Wilt, and Kareem. Who starts? Three of the four best centers to play the game, all on the same team. This team will also have the best point guard ever and face of the Lakers front office, Magic Johnson. Magic will run the fast break and dish out passes to guys who were alright, such as Kobe Bryant and James Worthy. Incredible. Pau Gasol is featured in the photo as well, as he was a huge part of the Lakers 09 and 10 Championship wins.

Who’s Missing?

The All-Time Lakers full team hasn’t been released, and probably won’t be until the game is out, but we’ll take a look at who else should earn a spot on the team. Along with the four bigs mentioned above, the Lakers should also add Elgin Baylor, one of the most underrated Lakers greats. Another one of those one-team players, Elgin has the most rebounds in Lakers history, and fourth most points in the franchise. I don’t know if 2K will add someone older than Bill Russell, but George Mikan is another guy I’d enjoy playing with in 2K. Mikan was a huge part of the Lakers first 5 of 16 Championships, while averaging 23 points and 13 rebounds for his career. To round out the big men, as a bottom of the bench guy, give me Lamar Odom.

The Lakers All-Time team is jammed with bigs, but what guards and wings should make the team? For me, Jerry West and Michael Cooper are two easy ones to backup Magic and Kobe. “The Logo” is 2nd all time in points in Lakers history, right behind Kobe. In his 12 years with the Lakers, Michael Cooper won five titles with Magic and Kareem. Cooper was named to the first-team all-defense five times as well, winning Defensive Player of the Year in 1987. Looking for more wings while also taking the best available, Jamaal Wilkes is someone who comes to mind. Silk played alongside Magic, winning two titles and finishing 10th all time in Lakers scoring history. Gail Goodrich would be my pick for another backup guard, as he ranks 8th in points, and 8th in assists, in Lakers franchise history.

Looking at the Lakers roster I mentioned so far, there’s 14 guys. Every team has that one guy who never sees the floor, and my 15th man on the roster happens to be the guy who has the worst winning percentage of a coach, ever (min 1000 games). D’Angelo Russell hater Byron Scott won three championships with Magic and the Showtime Lakers, while also racking up the 4th most steals in Lakers history. The Honorable Mention list includes Derek Fisher, Norm Nixon, Rick Fox, A.C. Green, and Robert Horry.
