ESPN is currently airing the NBA Draft Combine in Chicago. Rece Davis anchoring the event along with Tom Ford and Jay Bilas. Sideline reporter Jeff Goodman stopped to talk to Magic Johnson and Luke Walton as they were watching the players that attended.
Magic, was questioned about how he thought the father of Lonzo Ball, Lavar, would help or hinder his draft status. Magic simply said it wouldn’t. “We assess the player”, Magic replied, “not only on the basketball court, but in what he can do for your team. How he can enhance and make your team better. So if we are fortunate to keep our pick no matter where it is, just like any other team, we will take a look at him and the other players who are there”.
ESPN reporter Jeff Goodman, continued by asking how important is to keep the pick, which will also allow the Lakers to keep their first round pick in 2019.To get the Lakers back to relevance and towards the postseason in terms of a realistic timeline. “If we dont get the pick, it wont keep us from getting us back to where we want to be. There are trades that can be made, and we have cap space. I’m really looking keep this years cap space, and use it on next years free agent class.
Mr Goodman then turned to Luke Walton and asked a question in reference to Luke’s dad Bill Walton. Bill is an announcer for Pac 12 games. There are 4 players from that conference currently at the combine. He said “First, we have to keep the pick, then I would probably carve out a couple of hours, for one player”. If it came down to it he said he would definitely talk to him.
The NBA Draft Lottery is Tuesday May 16th and the NBA Draft is June 22nd
