The Future Is Here

What a crazy day it was. The Lakers have kept their pick, and will draft 2nd in this years NBA Draft in Brooklyn. The future looks bright for the Lakers, not only for draft purposes, but for free agency as well, as Lakers reporter Mike Trudell stated just after the lottery.

L.A.’s free agent pitch got stronger: No. 2 pick, Russell, Randle, Clarkson, Nance, Jr., Luke Walton and a bunch of space plus Los Angeles.

Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak was in New York for the lottery representing the Lakers on Tuesday night. 76ers head coach Brett Brown was representing his team, who ended up winning the lottery, as Dikembe Mutombo somehow knew hours before… JK… Anyways, the Lakers will draft 2nd, hopefully taking whoever Philadelphia doesn’t draft, out of Ingram and Simmons. The Boston Celtics will draft 3rd, rounding out the top 3. Mitch had something to say after the lottery. (via Bresnahan)

The lottery provided “drama that really, at this stage of my life, is unnecessary.”

Boy Was I Wrong

Exactly a week before the lottery, I released an article on how the lottery works, and also stated my own (completely random) draft lottery predictions. I projected the Pelicans to jump from 6 to 1, the Suns to jump from 4 to 2, and the Lakers to drop from 2 to 3. I thought there would be many surprises in the lottery, but the only surprise in this years lottery is the fact that there were no surprises…

THE BALLS

As we know, the drawing is held about an hour prior to the actually lottery showing on TV. The first pick was drawn, with the combination 1-10-5-9. Just like last year, we had a repeat. This year, the 76ers had the first two combinations (second drawing was 1-7-9-2), but there was a redraw for the second pick in the draft. The Lakers lucky combination this year was 2-3-7-14. What’s Next?

Many, many, many, mock drafts, and A LOT of Brandon Ingram vs. Ben Simmons chatter. But for now, we wait until June 23rd for the draft in Brooklyn. Don’t worry Lakers fans, the future is bright!
