D’Angelo Russell talks pressure

Magic Johnson’s advisor role is a step in the wrong direction
Do the Lakers need an established star?
How has Luke Walton been so far?

D’Angelo Russell and his recent success is starting to get noticed. Since the all-star break he has been tearing up the league showing the NBA that he is the real deal and that patience will be the ultimate virtue in the end. NBA TV’s Grant Hill took some time on inside stuff to ask him some questions regarding Luke Walton and the pressure he faces as the future face of the franchise.

Grant Hill asked him about the Luke Walton hiring:

“I was just so excited for the season just asking him all types of questions” Russell stated. “I remember letting him know if I’m nagging him in the playoffs just let me know. He (Walton) was like hit me up anytime I’m ready to get to work”.

Seems Russell was just as excited as most Laker fans were when Walton was hired.

Hill asked him about the importance of Coach and point guard being on same page:

“His (Walton) credibility is so high when he speaks you listen” Russell stated. “A lot of people told me that before I even met him he was the guy for this team and tell you he’s all about winning it and making the right play”

Hill asked him to grade his rookie season as a whole:

“I was lost” Russell went on “you don’t know what to work on you spending so much time working on everything. This year I feel more engaged”. Russell goes on to discuss what one of his main focuses has been on this season, the 3 point shot. “I feel like if you make the 3 point shot it makes it harder for players to guard you, and I really wanted to elevate my game that way”

Seems that the Kobe Bryant tour last year was just about the most anti-development move the Lakers could’ve done. Fortunately, it doesn’t seem to have effected Russell in too bad of way.

Hill asks him about being a Young team and the pressure he faces being the possible face of the franchise:

“My pressure? It’s something that I can control whatever it is you just got to make it happen”

For some fun Hill asked Russell what’s the First word that comes to mind when he hears a player’s name on his team.

Luol Deng: Veteran

Brandon Ingram: Silent Assassin

Jordan Clarkson: Energizer Bunny
