As most of you know, the actual drawing for the draft lottery happens 30-45 minutes before the announcement is made on TV. The Celtics had the highest chance at the #1 pick, and they actually had the winning lottery balls, 3 times in a row. Obviously, they won’t have multiple top picks. Rob Pelinka, representing the Lakers in the draft lottery room, had to be sweating profusely, waiting for the Lakers winning combination to be announced.
After the Celtics had 3 straight winning combinations, the numbers 14, 5, 3, and 12, were drawn. The Lakers have won the 2nd overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. Following the Lakers, the 76ers will draft 3rd.
Following the lottery, Rob Pelinka stated, “I just thanked God.”

Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka do have a lot to think about over the next few weeks. Lonzo Ball is projected to be taken by the Lakers at #2, but names like De’Aaron Fox and Josh Jackson will also be talked about in the next month and a half. As for trading the pick, it doesn’t sound likely.
The Lakers will evaluate trade options for the No. 2 pick. Rob Pelinka added, though, it's not very likely they trade it.
