CBS Sports just released their rankings of the best starting lineups in the NBA and had the Lakers listed at 28. These rankings did not take projections into account, it was based strictly on expect play this year.
I personally agree with the ranking, more or less. The Lakers will not be a good team this year, they will be fun, they have promise, but they will not be good. CBS Sports did acknowledge that the Lakers are loaded with young talent, it will just take time
There is talent here, though it likely won’t lead to winning many actual NBA games for a while.
There was, however, the continual shade being thrown at D’Angelo Russell
We think D’Angelo Russell will be given the keys but are we sure that’s a good thing?
Russell, even with his solid rookie campaign and dazzling Summer League, is still a punching bag for the general media. The article also suggested the best-case scenario for the Lakers would involve moving Julius Randle to the bench. As we have stated before, Julius Randle has holes in his game that he needs to work on, but he skill set is incredibly unique and he needs to be in the starting lineup everyday. The Lakers will succeed or fail on Russell, Randle, and Ingram, everything possible needs to be done to ensure they reach their potential.
As for the ranking, I think it is more than fair to the Lakers. There are questions about if Timofey Mozgov can return to his 2014-15 production, will Russell and Randle take the next step in development, how much has Clarkson improved. Even if the Lakers do well in those areas, they are an incredibly young team. The Lakers are on the right course, we as fans need to continue to remain patient.
