Brandon Ingram is scheduled to workout for the Lakers this coming Thursday, June 9th. Will this seal the deal for the 6’9″ forward out of Duke at #2?
A little under 3 weeks ago, it was the most stressful time for fans in the Lakers off-season. The team and its millions of fans found out that the horrifying season that they endured was worth the frustration. The Lakers were able to keep their lottery pick and stayed exactly where they finished the season at #2. With the 76ers locking themselves in at the #1 spot, the consensus around the league is that they will be selecting the overall top prospect Ben Simmons. This will leave the Lakers with Brandon Ingram. Many believe Simmons and Ingram are 1a and 1b in this draft, so the Lakers are in a terrific spot.
As reported by Bleacher Report’s Kevin Ding:

The 6’9″ freakishly long wing will be working out for them this coming Thursday, June 9th. Many mock drafts, including DraftExpress, Sports Illusratated, our friends at Lakers Outsiders, Hoops Hype, and most mock drafts across the internet have Ingram coming to the Lakers with the #2 pick. The Lakers will now have the chance to personally view what the forward is capable of. It is standard practice for teams with high picks to work out many different top players. The workout process cannot be stressed enough. Many will recall it was a work out that convinced the Lakers to pick D’Angelo Russel over Jahlil Okafor, as Ding reported last off-season via Bleacher Report:
It didn’t help that, according to team sources, Okafor’s second pre-draft workout with the Lakers was a distinct drop-off from the first—whereas Russell was channeling Stephen Curry‘s velvety stroke in his follow-up workout with the team.
Having a good workout for a team is not just a show of your skills on the court. It’s also a show of your personality and what you can bring off the court. Pre-draft workouts are a “working interview” or in culinary terms a “stage”(H/T to my fiancé). As stated above, showing that you have fire and the want to be a star can go a long way in showing a team, especially the Lakers, that you’re worthy of a top 2 pick.
